Eclipse glasses 2027
Solar filter for your phone’s camera
A card with a solar filter window that goes in front of your phone’s camera to photograph the Sun during the eclipse. It is for the camera: it is not for looking at the Sun.
What it is and what it’s for
Without a filter, your phone’s camera sees the Sun as a white blob. With the filter in front you can see its disc and the Moon gradually covering it.
It is a filter for the camera lens, not eye protection: it doesn’t carry the eclipse-glasses certificate because it is not for looking through.
What’s inside
One solar filter for your phone’s camera
How to use it
- Check it before each use: if it is damaged, torn, holed or separated from its frame, throw it away.
- Hold it in front of the camera lens, between the Sun and the camera, with the marked side facing the Sun.
- Take the photo looking at the screen, never at the Sun. To look at the Sun, keep your eclipse glasses on.
- Don’t use it with cameras that have an optical viewfinder (DSLRs): the Sun’s light would reach your eye through the viewfinder.

Frequently asked questions
Can I look at the Sun through the filter?
No. It is for the camera, not for your eyes. To watch the eclipse, use certified eclipse glasses.
Can a child use it?
No: the filter itself says it is meant for people over 18. If a child wants the photo, an adult takes it, and the child watches the eclipse with their glasses on.
How long does it last?
3 years: the card itself says so. Sooner if it gets scratched, holed or comes away from its frame.
