What it is and what it’s for

They are cardboard glasses with two solar filters that let through a tiny fraction of the Sun’s light and block ultraviolet and infrared. With them you can look at the Sun during the partial phases of the eclipse, in spells of 3 minutes at most.

This model (EVA003169) has its own EU type-examination certificate, from AITEX, and its own lab test. The numbers are in the technical sheet, so you can check them.

Where your design goes

Unprinted cardboard eclipse glasses, three-quarter view, with three areas marked: the front, the outside of the arms and the inside.

This is the photo of model EVA003169, unprinted. This is how the glasses are divided:

  1. The whole front: your design
  2. The outside of the arms: your logo or text
  3. The inside: the instructions and the mandatory legal information (CE, EN ISO 12312-2, manufacturer and importer). Not to be changed.

How to use it

  1. Before using them, look at both filters against the light: if they have a scratch or a hole, or are coming away from the cardboard, don’t use them.
  2. Put them on before looking at the Sun and don’t take them off until you have looked away. If you wear prescription glasses, put them on over them.
  3. Only during totality, if you are inside the path and the Sun is completely covered, can you take them off. As soon as the first ray shows, put them back on.
  4. Never look through binoculars, telescopes or cameras with them: those need their own filter.

Safety warnings

  • Never look at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses, not even for a second: retinal damage doesn’t hurt and can be permanent.
  • Check the filters before each use. If they are scratched, holed or coming loose, don’t use them.
  • Don’t use them for more than 3 minutes at a time: look in spells and rest in between.
  • Never look through binoculars, telescopes or cameras with them.
  • They are not for driving or for looking at anything other than the Sun.
  • Children, always with an adult.

Frequently asked questions

When do they go on sale and how much are they?

There is no date or price yet. On the day sales open, they will appear on this page.

Do ordinary sunglasses work?

No. Sunglasses let through thousands of times more light than is safe for looking at the Sun. Only filters that meet the EN ISO 12312-2 standard will do.

Can I order them with my own design?

Yes, if you are buying for a business, a town hall, a school or a shop: the front and the outside of the arms are yours; the inside carries the instructions and the mandatory legal information.

How long do they last?

The manufacturer gives them 3 years from manufacture. What matters is their condition: if a filter is scratched, holed or coming loose, don’t use them.

Can children use them?

Yes, they are one size. Always with an adult beside them who makes sure they don’t take them off while looking at the Sun.
