Eclipse weather
The eclipse reaches Morocco in the morning. Totality falls between 08:44 and 08:53, Morocco time (GMT), with the Sun 37° to 42° above the horizon. In Tangier, 2 h 20 min pass from first to last contact.
August is dry and sunny in northern Morocco. The risk that morning is low cloud and mist forming over the sea: on the Atlantic coast it can last until after totality, and on the Mediterranean coast the levanter piles it up against the Rif. Inland, skies are usually clear.
According to Jay Anderson (Eclipsophile): in Tangier, the centre, the east and the beaches on the bay are best; at the southern limit of the path, go at least 70 km inland, towards Ouezzane; Chefchaouen is the least cloudy site in his sample; and the coast between Tétouan and El Jebha is best avoided.

How to prepare
- Check the forecast the day before and keep a back-up site inland in mind.
- Arrive early: first contact is more than an hour before totality.
- Eclipse glasses meeting ISO 12312-2 for all the partial phases. Take them off only during totality.
- Water, a hat and sunscreen: by mid-morning in August the sun is already strong.
