The only safe standard — and the UK paperwork to prove it

There is exactly one valid kind of gear for looking at the partial phases: filters compliant with EN ISO 12312-2:2015. Eclipse glasses are category II personal protective equipment (PPE), which means a serious pair comes with a paper trail, not just a logo. These are the papers behind the glasses we sell:

• The standard: EN ISO 12312-2:2015, certified by CCQS Certification Services Limited (Dublín, Irlanda) — notified body number 2834, which you can look up yourself in the European Commission's NANDO database. Certificate CE-PI-20251117-01-01-9A.
• The UK declaration: the same certificate declares conformity with the UK PPE Regulations 2018 — not only the EU's Reglamento (UE) 2016/425 — with a UK authorised representative: MediMap Ltd · 2 The Drift, Thurston, Suffolk IP31 3RT, Reino Unido. That is what makes selling them with UK delivery legitimate rather than a grey import.

Whoever you buy from, run the same three checks when the glasses are in your hands: the literal marking EN ISO 12312-2 printed on the frame; a CE (or UKCA) mark backed by a 4-digit notified body you can find in NANDO; and a physical inspection against a bright lamp — no pinholes, scratches or creases, before every use. • The AAS suppliers list. The American Astronomical Society maintains the independent list of manufacturers and vendors whose filters have actually been tested, at eclipse.aas.org — a good place to find a seller who can still reach you in time.
• Opticians, planetariums and science museums near you: specialist sellers with traceable stock and a person in front of you who answers for it.
