The 105 Spanish towns with totality in 2027: the full list, with their seconds and times

On 2 August 2027, 105 municipalities will see totality: 55 in Málaga, 30 in Cádiz, 13 in Granada, 5 in Almería, plus Ceuta and Melilla. Each with its own page, its IGN duration and its time of maximum, and the ones that only just miss out.

There are 105 municipalities: 55 in Málaga province, 30 in Cádiz, 13 in Granada and 5 in Almería, plus Ceuta and Melilla, Spain’s two cities in North Africa. This is the IGN’s list for 2 August 2027. Ceuta has the longest totality, 4 min 48 s, and Casarabonela the shortest, 10 s. Maximum eclipse reaches Rota first, at 10:46:49, and Roquetas de Mar last, at 10:51:18, mainland Spanish time (CEST, UTC+2).

How to read the list

The duration is the one published by Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) for each municipality, and the time of maximum comes from our own calculation. The IGN’s times run about ten seconds earlier than ours. Each town page gives both: the filter comes off at the later of the two start times for totality and goes back on at the earlier of the two end times. All times are mainland Spanish time, in Ceuta and Melilla too.

To choose a spot there are the best villages to see it from, where to watch in Spain and the map.

The ones that only just miss out

Almería city reaches 99.9% of the Sun covered and Granada 99.2%; Huelva, 98.6%; Seville, 98.4%, and Córdoba, 96.8%. Chipiona and Vícar, also at 99.9%, are a special case: our engine gave them totality and the IGN did not, and on this list the IGN has the last word. In all of them the eclipse is partial and the filter doesn’t come off for a single second.

Sources: municipalities with totality and the duration for each: IGN — eclipses.ign.es (in Spanish); times of maximum and percentages: eclipseando engine (skyfield + DE440s).

If you would like something to keep from the eclipse, the shop prints T-shirts, mugs and posters with the name of your town, the time of its maximum and its seconds of totality. See the merchandise →

Remember: never look at the Sun without proper eye protection (filters made to EN ISO 12312-2). The official reference for safe viewing in Spain is the IGN (in Spanish): eclipses.ign.es.
